“I want to learn but help me to do it myself.” – Maria Montessori
A Montessori education becomes an education for life, it encourages the child to learn and develop a life-long love of learning which will continue throughout his or her life. At Skitterland Montessori, we cater for infants up to 1 year, toddlers from 18 months to 3 years, and pre-school age 3 – 6. Children are offered an environment where they are able to grow and develop through love and respect.
The Skitterland Montessori Infant / Toddler environment provides a safe, calm, carefully designed setting for optimal learning. At this age we already lay the foundations for the way they explore and how children feel about themselves. We give them the opportunity to explore naturally with their senses and to work out how things respond to their touch, allowing time for them to explore their space, and responding to their efforts.
TODDLER CLASSES
This is a very important time for development. Our Toddler class environment reaches every aspect of the Toddler’s development. The brain is in its key stage of development and the foundation is laid for language and creative thinking development through exploring their environment.
PRE-SCHOOL AGE 3 – 6 ENVIRONMENT
This stage involves everyday activities such as pouring, spooning, polishing and food preparation, all of which develop hand dexterity. The children also learn how to care for both themselves and their environment. Practical life serves as preparation for later mathematics and language.
Language and reading skills start with manipulating objects, listening to the sounds and connecting it to the correct letter. Without children realizing it, they are setting the foundation to becoming a confident reader.
